Version 2026-10-22 · Applies to the Best Version of You app, website and coach
This Privacy Policy explains what information Michael Friedberg, the operator of Best Version of You, together with any successor or assignee (“we”, “us”, “our”), collects through the Best Version of You app, website and coach (the “App”), how we use and share it, and the choices you have. The App's “Private by design” screen is a short summary; this policy is the full statement.
1. What we collect
Account information: your name, email address and password (stored only as a one-way hash), and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the account identifier and email address they share with us.
Health and fitness information you log or connect: foods, drinks, meals and water; fasts; weight, body measurements and body composition; workouts, runs (including the GPS route), walks and swims; steps, heart rate, heart-rate variability, blood oxygen, temperature, sleep and other readings from rings, scales and treadmills; data you allow us to read from Apple Health; data from services you connect, such as Strava and Oura; and your goals and profile, such as birth date or age, sex, height, activity level and time zone.
Photos, video and voice: meal, progress, body and proof photos you take or import; camera images used to count reps; and what you say or type to the coach, with its transcripts.
Social information: the partners you add, invites, nudges, cheers, call-outs, check-ins and their verifications, commitments, and the share links you make and the cheers they receive.
Device and technical information: push-notification tokens, device model, operating system, app version, language, IP address, logs of how the App performs, and crash and bug reports, including any screenshot you choose to attach.
What you send us: messages, feedback and requests.
2. How we use it
We use your information to: run the App and its features; produce coach replies, estimates, plans and summaries for you; send the notifications you choose; let you share with the people you pick; keep the App and its users safe and secure and prevent abuse; find and fix problems; develop and improve the App and the models behind it; comply with the law and enforce our Terms; and for anything else with your consent.
3. AI processing and model improvement
The coach and food recognition run on computers we operate, not on a third-party AI service. Your messages, photos and voice are processed there to answer you.
We may use your information, with names, emails and other direct identifiers removed, to train, test and evaluate our models and features. We may share de-identified data sets with research partners who agree not to try to identify anyone in them.
4. Your consent to processing health information
The App exists to record and analyze health and fitness information. When you sign up you give your express consent for us to collect and use your health information for the purposes in this policy. You may withdraw that consent at any time by deleting the data or your account; we then stop collecting it, though the App can no longer work for you without it. We will ask for separate consent before we use or share health information in any way this policy does not describe.
5. How we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for targeted advertising, and we never give health information to advertisers or data brokers.
We share information only: with service providers who host, store, back up and deliver the App for us, such as hosting and storage providers and push-notification services (Apple, Google and Expo), under obligations to protect it and use it only for us; with the people you choose, such as partners and anyone who opens a link you share; with services you connect, as you direct; when the law requires it, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is needed to protect someone's safety, our rights or the App's security; in a transfer described in Section 6; with your consent; and in de-identified or aggregated form that does not identify you.
6. If the App is sold or transferred
If we sell, transfer or assign the App or any of its assets, or take part in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, financing, bankruptcy, receivership or similar transaction, your information, including health information, may be disclosed during the due diligence for it and transferred to the buyer or successor as part of it. You agree to that transfer. The buyer or successor must handle your information consistently with this Privacy Policy until it gives you notice of a change and, where the law requires, gets your consent.
7. Apple Health
If you let the App read from or write to Apple Health, we use that data only to provide the App's features to you. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with third parties except service providers helping us run the App or with your consent.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open and for as long as we need it to provide the App. When you delete data or your account, we delete it or remove what identifies you within a reasonable time, except for copies in backups that expire on their own schedule, and what we must keep to comply with the law, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed, disclosed, changed or destroyed without permission.
10. Your choices and rights
You can view and correct most of your information in the App, delete individual entries, turn off device permissions (camera, microphone, location, Bluetooth, Apple Health and notifications) in your phone's settings, and delete your account in Settings › Account › Delete account, which removes your account and everything in it. To ask for a copy of your information or a correction, or for help with deletion, write to askmikeai@gmail.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will answer within the time the law where you live requires. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Depending on where you live, including California, other U.S. states with privacy laws, and Washington and Nevada for consumer health data, you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete and port your information, to withdraw consent, and to appeal our answer. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our answer.
If you live in Brazil, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information to perform our contract with you, with your consent (including your specific consent for health information), for our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the App, and to meet legal obligations. You have the rights your law gives you, including access, correction, deletion, portability, objection and withdrawal of consent, and you may complain to your data-protection authority, such as Brazil's ANPD.
11. Where your information is stored
We store and process information in the United States. If you use the App from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from yours.
12. Children
The App is only for people 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn we have, we will delete it.
13. Not a health-care provider
We are not a health-care provider or a health plan, and the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) does not apply to the information you give us. This policy and the laws that apply to us govern it instead.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we make a material change, we will ask you to accept the new version in the App before you continue, or tell you in another reasonable way. The version date at the top shows which version is in force.
